If you plan to stay in Ayers Rock (Uluru) for a night or two, you've landed on the right page to find Ayers Rock Tours which depart from the Ayers Rock Resort hotels. A trip to the Australian outback would not be complete without a tour of Ayers Rock (Uluru) and the Olgas (Kata Tjuta).
Ayers Rock has it's own airport but if you don't fly in to Ayers Rock, the nearest big town is called Alice Springs. There are Ayers Rock Tours which start from Alice Springs but it is around 450 kilometres from Alice Springs, to Ayers Rock, so it is a long way to travel to get there.
Ayers Rock is an amazing iconic place and the rock changes colour thoughout the day so the view at sunrise and sunset can be quite different. The Olgas are not far from Ayers Rock and well worth a visit. The Olgas are 36 weathered rocky domes dating back hundreds of millions of years.
Out of respect for the preference of the Aboriginal owners, many people do not climb Uluru. For those who wish to, a climb to the top is not for the faint-hearted — or the unfit. The steep ascent takes about 45 minutes and climbers should make sure they carry a drink. We recommend you stay a night or two in the red centre to really experince it. The stars at night are amazing so be sure to book for the night actvities as well such as the observatory night sky show.
