In historic Cooktown relive Captain Cook's adventures and a rollicking gold rush.Travel through World Heritage rainforest and enjoy an interpretive walk in this primeval jungle. A great Australian safari with starkly contrasting landscapes and cultures.

Sit back relax and enjoy three wonderful days of viewing some of the world's most pristine Rainforest and coastal views that Australia has to offer. On this all inclusive hotel and meals package tour, you will travel in small groups, with a maximum of only 6 people.
Itinerary

Day 1 - Cairns to Cooktown via Wet Tropics & Atherton Tablelands

Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Cooktown Single/ Twin/ Double (ensuite)

After pick up from your accommodation, we ascend the Lamb Range above Cairns with amazing views over the city and beyond. We arrive at Copperlode Dam and Lake Morris, Cairns water catchment area. Our ‘exclusive permit’ allow us to 4WD through the rainforest and river crossings to view rare King Ferns, one of our earliest vascular plant forms dating back to 325 million years. We then visit a World Heritage Rainforest Boardwalk where you’ll view giant Strangler Fig Trees. We then head to Bob’s Lookout before heading to Palmer River Roadhouse for lunch. Heading on towards Cooktown & mysterious Black Mountain, we climb some rugged terrain for a visit to Archer Point Lighthouse - a beacon to guide ships along the Great Barrier Reef. From here we will head to Cooktown to our accommodation at the beautiful Sovereign Hotel.

Day 2 - Explore Cooktown

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Overnight: Cape Tribulation. Single/ Twin/ Double (ensuite)

After breakfast, we will enjoy a town tour of Cooktown and head up to Grassy Hill lookout for a look at fantastic views of Cooktown and its famous "River of Gold". It’s then onto the Historic Captain James Cook Museum, which is one of Queensland best museums, showcasing the remarkable history of this remarkable town. The museum follows the story of Captain James Cook’s enforced seven-week stay at the Endeavour River, during which the first meaningful contact between Europeans and Indigenous Australian took place, to the days of the Palmer River gold rush, as well as personal stories and items from Cooktown’s early residents.

Now that you have been enriched in Australia’s true history, we then head down to the famous historical Lion’s Den Hotel for lunch and a refreshing drink (own expense). This is truly an Aussie icon built on the banks of the little Annan River, surrounded by 100-year-old mango trees. Sign the wall like 100’s of visitor’s from all over Australia and the world have done for many years.

From here we will head south towards Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest. Engaging 4WD we travel along the Bloomfield Track enjoying many scenic spots including Bloomfield Falls, Cedar Bay National Park, a boardwalk and more. After arriving at Cape Tribulation, you are free to take a walk on the beach and head up to Kulki Lookout. We then head towards our overnight accommodation.

Day 3 - Cooktown to Cairns/Port Douglas Via the Captain Cook Highway

Breakfast, Lunch Return to Accommodation

After a leisurely breakfast, we head on towards Thornton Beach, adjacent to Queensland's fourth highest mountain, Thornton Peak at 1374 m. Here you will get a chance to stretch your legs on the beach and grab some amazing photo opportunities. We then continue on to the Alexandra Lookout for spectacular views over the Daintree River mouth and beyond to Low isles on the Great Barrier Reef and Snapper Island. We arrive at the famous Daintree River for our cable ferry crossing and onto our river cruise on one of the most diverse river systems in the world. He you will enjoy our one-hour cruise on the Daintree River where crocodiles and varied native bird species are spotted. This is your chance to see one of the longest river systems on the east coast of Australia through the eyes of a local, naturalist guide.

After the cruise we will have a short drive to the Daintree Tea House for a special lunch at one of the Daintree region’s oldest established restaurants with a choice to try delicious Barramundi Fish (other menu items are available) and exotic tropical fruits.

After lunch we head to Mossman Gorge Located in the Southern section of the Daintree National Park, where you will be immersed in the rich traditions of the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal culture on a 1.5-hour guided walk.

Finally, we head south along one of the nicest coastal drives in the world, the picturesque Captain Cook Highway towards Cairns with an optional stop at Port Douglas. Your guide will drop you back to your accommodation in Cairns or Port Douglas in the early evening.

This tour is not suitable for children under 7 years of age. Child age is from 7 - 14 years only.
Solo travellers must pay the Single rate.
Luggage space is very limited. Please limit this to one small soft travel bag (typically 300mm x 300mm x 700mm) and a small daypack (cabin baggage). Your sleeping bag and pillow may be packed separately. A maximum weight limit of 10kg is permitted due to limitations and Workplace Health & Safety requirements.
