This 7 Day Cape York 4WD Safari starts with a flight from Cairns to Horn Island, then after a tour of Thursday Island you catch a ferry to the mainland and you drive south back to Cairns. It can be done as an accommodated or camping tour. This allows groups of people to travel together where if some are keen campers and others would rather not sleep in tents, they can travel on the same tour together.

How to Book:  A Deposit of $400 per adult is required to confirm your place with the balance due 60 days before departure. More Information:

The minimum number of people per trip required for the trip to run is 10. (Of course you can book with as few as one person - you will be matched up with other people) The maximum number is 25 however these are amongst the most modern and comfortable 4WD tour vehicles available  featuring on-board toilets, TV/ DVD, road cam and all forward facing, reclinable seats.

The camping is all in pre erected tents so there is less time spent setting up and taking down camps sites each day. The people who chose to stay in accommodation are not far away from the campers and everyone on tour, eats and tours together.

Because you are flying one way, there is adequate time to explore and discover the highlights of Cape York and the 7 day tour also features a tour of Thursday Island!

DAY 1 CAIRNS – THURSDAY ISLAND – CAPE YORK (D)

Transfer to Cairns airport for your flight to Thursday Island. This flight provides spectacular views of the Coral Sea and The Great Barrier Reef and the uninhabited East Coast wilderness of Cape York Peninsula. On arrival at Thursday Island, you will be taken on an informative guided bus tour of the island and its picturesque Harbour, once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. Late afternoon ferry transfer to the mainland, where you will be met by your guide, who will take you to Seisia. Seisia is ideally located for our next few days, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, a famous fishing spot. DAY 2 CAPE YORK (BLD)

An unforgettable day! Stand at the very top of mainland Australia. We then visit Somerset (road conditions permitted), once the home of the legendary Jardine family and government outpost established in 1864. We have lunch on the palm fringed Anchorage Beach, which overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk on the beach will complete your day before returning to base. DAY 3 CAPE YORK – FRUIT BAT FALLS– BRAMWELL STATION (BLD)

Southward bound, we cross the mighty Jardine River, stopping at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim and enjoy this unique area with its enchanting waterfall. Travelling along part of the Old Telegraph Track, before we make our way to a ‘true blue, aussie’ cattle station, Bramwell Station. (Accommodation option: share facilities) (Camping option: overnight permanent camp site at a true blue Aussie cattle station, Bramwell Station.) (ST)

DAY 4 BRAMWELL - WEIPA (BD)

A southerly run through the wilderness with all its varied landscapes to cross the Wenlock River. We head for the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria and our overnight stop at Weipa, with its view over Albatross Bay. This afternoon there will be the opportunity of a tour of the largest bauxite mine in the world (own expense). (Accommodation option: at the Heritage Resort – ensuite facilities) (Camping option: The permanent pre-erected campsite is located close to the beach, to enjoy spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Carpentaria.) DAY 5 WEIPA - MUSGRAVE (BLD)

We continue south, stopping off at the picturesque Archer River, then on to the historic frontier gold town of Coen. The afternoon finds us arriving at our overnight stay at Old Musgrave Telegraph Station. (Accommodation option - share facilities) (Camping option: permanent campsite at the old Musgrave Telegraph station). (ST)

 

DAY 6 MUSGRAVE - LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK - COOKTOWN (BLD)

After an early start, we head east towards Princess Charlotte Bay where we traverse the entire length of Lakefield National Park (road conditions permitted). An amalgamation of 3 huge cattle stations, now a haven for the many birds and animals native to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. Travelling southwards, we continue on to Old Laura Homestead and then cross the Battle Camp Range. This afternoon we explore the old gold port of Cooktown. Visit Captain Cooks Landing and Grassy Hill Lookout. Overnight accommodation at the Seaview Motel in Cooktown – ensuite facilities.  (Tonight only, everyone's overnight accommodation at Cooktown is at the same landmark motel – with ensuite facilities. DAY 7 COOKTOWN - CAPE TRIBULATION - CAIRNS (BL)

The final exciting day has, unfortunately, arrived, but before returning to Cairns, we make our way south passing the mysterious Black Mountain and the historic Lions Den Hotel. Traversing the jungle shrouded Bloomfield Track we see where the 'rainforest meets the reef' at Cape Tribulation. We travel through the splendor of a World Heritage listed rainforest. A scenic drive along the Marlin Coast is a perfect way to complete your safari. Arriving late afternoon in Cairns, where you will be taken to your accommodation.

 OPTIONAL EXTRA DAY CAIRNS – HORN ISLAND - THURSDAY ISLAND (LDB) You will have the option to start your holiday a day earlier. An early morning scenic flight will take you to Horn Island. This day includes a tour of Horn Island, entry to the Torres Strait Heritage Museum. You will stay the night at the Gateway Torres Strait Resort at Horn Island. The next day you take the ferry to Thursday Island and start day 1 of the tour. Optional extra day cost is $285 per person on twin share basis, or $385 for sole use.

Camping safari with permanent camps:
Provides twin share headroom high dome tents which are fully fly screened and are already set up for your convenience. We also provide a 2 inch high density foam mattress. For more comfort we have camp stretchers for hire at an additional charge of $ 36.00 per person per tour. You can bring your own sleeping bag, sheet and pillow or you can hire this from us at a charge of $ 15.00 per sleeping bag, $ 5.00 per sheet and $ 5.00 per pillow with pillow case for the duration of the tour.


Budget Accommodated Safari with outdoor camp meals:

Instead of camping you can join this tour where you sleep in a room each night, you have 2 nights accommodation with an ensuite bathroom and 4 nights of basic twin share accommodation with shared bathroom facilities with all linen supplied

WEIPA MINE TOUR - FOR ANYONE

The Largest Bauxite Mine in the World
A fascinating and informative tour of this enormous open cast mining site and the remote mining town of Weipa. The tour covers just about everything you might want to know about the Western Cape Region and its history plus a comprehensive insight into the whole process of mining and a chance to see the enormous mining equipment, trucks, locomotives and other plant used on the 2,590 square Km. Site. The tour takes approximately 2.5 hours and costs $40.00 pp

Booking Policy

Child Policy: Children = 11- 14 years receive 10% discount off adult fares. Children 7 - 10 years receive 15% off the adult fares. This tour is not recommended for children under 7 years of age but you are welcome to enquire if you think your child can manage 7 days of extended touring.

Single Traveller Policy: Where possible, if asked, we will try to match you up with a fellow (same sex) single traveller. If not possible or if you want to sleep on your own, you will have to pay a single supplement of $70 for camping, or $320 for accommodated trips s per tghe price table above.

Cancellation Policy:
�60 � 30 days prior to travel, a 25% cancellation fee applies
�30 � 14 days prior to travel, a 50% cancellation fee applies
�Less than 14 days prior to travel, a 100% cancellation fee applies
A $400 per person cancellation and administration fee applies to every cancellation greater than 60 days prior to the date of travel.
