On this 12 day Cape York Camping Tour there is so much to see! One of the many highlights of this trip is an overnight trip into Iron Range National Park (weather permitting) which is the largest remaining area of lowland rainforest in Australia. The days you get on this tour (compared to shorter tours) are spent exploring the Iron Range National Park including also Chilli Beach, and Portland Roads community, which once serviced the Gold Fields and WWII airfield. 

All tours are guaranteed to depart on the follow dates with a minimum of ten passengers and road conditions permitting. This trip is very popular and should be booked as far in advance as is possible.

More Information About the Tour:

The minimum number of people per trip required for the trip to run is 10. The maximum number is 25 however these are amongst the most modern and comfortable 4WD tour vehicles available  featuring on-board toilets, TV/ DVD, road cam and all forward facing, reclinable seats.

 

All fares include meals as per itinerary code: (B) Breakfast, (L) Lunch and (D) Dinner. All camping costs and entrance fees as per itinerary. Facilities code = (S) Showers, (T) Toilet, (Bc) Bush Camp, (L) Laundry.

Twin share tents and foam mattresses are provided to all passengers on camping safaris

DAY 1 CAIRNS – COOKTOWN (LD)

After an early morning pick up from selected Cairns accommodation your adventure begins.

Travelling north along the scenic Captain Cook Highway, through the World Heritage listed

Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Then making ourway along the jungle shrouded Bloomfield Track (road conditions permitted), stopping off at theunique Lion’s Den Hotel, and the mysterious Black Mountain, before arriving at the old gold portof Cooktown. Overnight accommodation in Cooktown – ensuite facilities.

DAY 2 COOKTOWN - LAKEFIELD (BLD)

This morning we explore the old gold port of Cooktown. Visit the Cooktown Museum (optionalextra) and Captain Cooks Landing. Heading west into the outback, making our way over theBattle Camp Range. We stop at the Old Laura Homestead, before travelling on to our overnight camp in Lakefield National Park (road conditions permitted). (ST)

DAY 3 LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK – ARCHER RIVER (BLD)

Lakefield National Park, a haven for the many birds and animals of this area. Lagoons,billabongs and wide river lakes are home to both fresh and saltwater crocodiles. Stopping off at the historic Musgrave Telegraph Station and the frontier gold town of Coen. We camp tonight at the picturesque Archer River. (STL)

DAY 4 ARCHER RIVER – IRON RANGE NATIONAL PARK (BLD)

This morning we visit the old Wenlock Gold Fields, an abandoned mining town, showing relics of Cape York’s history. After morning tea we make our way to the East Coast to explore the Iron Range National Park (weather and road conditions permitting), Chili Beach, and Portland Roads community, which once serviced the Gold Fields and WW II airfield. Overnight camp in Iron Range National Park (the largest remaining area of lowland rainforest in Australia) and home to the Eclectus Parrot, the rare Palm Cockatoo cuscus, and green python. (Bc+T)

DAY 5 IRON RANGE – BRAMWELL (BLD)

After an early morning start we make our way back to the main road. We cross the picturesque Pascoe River, before making our way to our overnight camp at a true blue Aussie Cattle Station, Bramwell Station. (ST)

 DAY 6 BRAMWELL STATION – FRUITBAT FALLS - SEISIA (BLD)

This morning we travel north travelling along part of the Old Telegraph Track to arrive at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim, and enjoy this unique area with its enchanting waterfall. Then northwards across the Jardine River, to arrive at Cape York! We will be staying at Seisia, which is ideally located for our next few days, being in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, the departure point for the ferry to Thursday Island and a famous fishing spot.  DAY 7 THURSDAY ISLAND (BD)

A free day! After breakfast, you have the following options (own expense):

Catch the ferry to Thursday Island, maybe join a guided bus tour  Spend the day at Seisia, fishing (hand lines available) or stroll along the beach

DAY 8 CAPE YORK - SOMERSET (BLD)

An unforgettable day! Stand at the very top of mainland Australia, we then visit Somerset (road conditions permitted), once the home of the legendary Jardine family and government outpost established in 1864. We have lunch on the palm fringed Anchorage Beach, which overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk on the beach will complete your day before returning to base. (STL)

DAY 9 SEISIA – TWIN FALLS (BLD)

Departing the Top End, southward bound, we re-cross the Jardine River. We travel along the upper section of the Old Telegraph Track, en route to Twin Falls, with its enchanting waterfalls and rock pools, ‘Paradise in Cape York’. An early arrival allows plenty of time to enjoy a refreshing swim and view the pristine falls. (Bc+T)

DAY 10 TWIN FALLS – WEIPA (BLD)

A southerly run through the wilderness with all its varied landscapes to cross the Wenlock River. We head for the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria and our overnight stop at Weipa beachfront Campground, with its view over Albatross Bay. This afternoon you may wish to take an informative tour of the Weipa mining operation (own expense) or just relax by the pool. (STL)

DAY 11 WEIPA – MUSGRAVE (BLD)

We continue south, stopping off at the picturesque Archer River, then on to the historic frontier gold town of Coen, before arriving at our camp at the Old Musgrave Telegraph Station. (ST)

DAY 12 MUSGRAVE - CAIRNS (BL)

This morning we visit the Quinkan Cultural Centre (admission at own expense), before heading towards the East Coast on the last leg of our journey. We will arrive in the late afternoon in Cairns.

Departure time from Cairns: Approximately 7am. Guests should make arrangements to stay in Cairns on the day before the tour is due to begin.

Return time to Cairns: 6.00pm. Guests should make arrangements to stay in Cairns on the date of return because the time of return can be delayed by several hours.

Pickup or Departure Point Details: Complimentary pick up from and drop off to Cairns city accommodation.

WEIPA MINE TOUR
The Largest Bauxite Mine in the World
A fascinating and informative tour of this enormous open cast mining site and the remote mining town of Weipa. The tour covers just about everything you might want to know about the Western Cape Region and its history plus a comprehensive insight into the whole process of mining and a chance to see the enormous mining equipment, trucks, locomotives and other plant used on the 2,590 square Km. Site. The tour takes approximately 2.5 hours and costs $40.00 pp

THURSDAY ISLAND BUS TOUR
There is probably no other place in Australia with a history longer or more colorful than that of Torres Strait. This T.I. Tour takes you to places the ordinary tourist could not hope to cover by foot in a single day. Stops include the Torres Strait Museum, Japanese Pearl Divers Memorial, and Green Hill Fort. Cancellation Policy:
•60 – 30 days prior to travel, a 25% cancellation fee applies
•30 – 14 days prior to travel, a 50% cancellation fee applies
•Less than 14 days prior to travel, a 100% cancellation fee applies
A $400 per person cancellation and administration fee applies to every cancellation greater than 60 days prior to the date of travel.
