How old do you have to be?
- 18 years of age to drive the Breezer but 21 years for the Nomad, Warrior, Wanderer and Off-Roader.
- All drivers must hold a full driver license with no restrictions – if the license is not written in English then you must have an International Driver Permit too accompany the license.
Is there a minimum rental period? 5 days (per calendar day) for same branch pick up and drop off for Nomad, Warrior, Wanderer and Off-Roader vehicles.
What about Vehicle Protection Coverage?
• Standard Insurance is included in the rate. The hirer of the vehicle must present a credit card and must also be the credit card holder. A refundable bond (debited) / excess of $3,500 for 2WD Campervans and $5000 for 4WD Campervans is required.
INSURANCE EXCESS REDUCTION OPTIONS:
Excess Reduction Option 1 (ER1)
- 2WD Campervans: $16 per day. Bond (debited) / Excess Reduced to $1,500
- 4WD Campervan: $25 per day. Bond (debited) /Excess Reduced to $2,500
Excess Reduction Option 2 (ER2)
- 2WD Campervans: $26 per day. Bond $220 (imprint only) / Excess Reduced to $NIL
- 4WD Campervan: $38 per day. Bond $440 (imprint only) /Excess Reduced to $NIL

Booking Information
Are one way rentals permitted?
One-way rentals are available between all branch locations with the exception of return one-way hires to Sydney Downtown, which are not available. One-way rental fees and minimum rental periods apply. One ways are available to Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney (not down-town) and Perth, where the minimum rental period is seven days, and an AU$200 one-way fee applies (Except for travel between Alice Springs and Darwin where the one-way fee is AU$250 and minimum hire is 14 days).
If an Excess Reduction Option is not selected, the security deposit is AU$3,500 for the Breezer,
Nomad, Warrior and Wanderer or AU$5,000 for the Off-Roader 4wd payable by credit card.
The AU$3,500 or AU$5,000 is debited to the hirer’s credit card when the vehicle is collected. For
this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the
amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.
If Excess Reduction Option 1 has been taken the security deposit is AU$1,500 for the Breezer,
Nomad, Warrior, Wanderer, or $2,500 for the Off-Roader 4wd.
The AU$1,500 or AU$2,500 is debited to the hirer’s credit card when the vehicle is collected. For
this reason it is important that the hirer have the funds available on the credit card and that the
amount does not exceed the hirer’s daily withdrawal allowance available on the credit card.
If Excess Reduction Option 2 is selected with or without Tyre and Windscreen Cover or the
package booked is the Smart Pack, the security deposit is AU$220 for the Breezer, Nomad, Warrior
and the Wanderer or $AU500 for the Off- Roader 4wd.
The AU$220/$500 is taken as an imprint to the hirer’s credit card when the vehicle is collected. An
imprint simply records a figure against the hirer’s credit card of AU$220/$500 that Backpacker can
then debit if required.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS
• 2WD campervans can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads. The only exceptions to this
are well-maintained access roads of less than two kilometres* to recognised
campgrounds and well-maintained, recognised roads on Kangaroo Island (South Australia).
*Should a customer wish to travel on an unsealed road that is greater than two kilometres
in length to access a recognised campground special permission can be arranged pending
road condition, weather and distance. Please contact your local representative to discuss.
• 4WD campervans can also be driven on recognised unsealed roads.
• 4WD vehicles are NOT permitted to travel to the following areas: Simpson Desert,
Strzelecki Track, Gunbarrel Highway, the Old Gunbarrel Hwy, Cape York, the
Bungle Bungles, Oodnadatta Track, Birdsville Track, Tanami Track, the Plenty
Highway, the Burke Development Road from Chillagoe to Normanton and
Savannah Way from Normanton to Borroloola, Fraser Island, Finke Road (between
Alice Springs and Oodnadatta), Central Arnhem Road, Arnhem Land in general,
Gibb River Road, Canning Stock Route, the Lost City in Litchfield Park, Boggy Hole
(Finke Gorge National Park) and the Old South Road from Maryvale to Finke.

Optional Extra HIRE Items:
(1) Picnic Table - AU$22 per rental
(2) Picnic Chairs - AU$12 per rental - Chairs are included if you purchase the "Smart Pack".
Minimum rental period is five days for the Nomad, Warrior, Wanderer and Off-Roader 4wd
vehicle types with the exception of one-way hires. Please refer to one-way rentals section for
more information.
• Minimum rental period is three days for the Breezer vehicle type with the exception of one-way
hires. Please refer to one-way rentals section for more information.
• Minimum rental period is 7 days between December 15 and January 5.
• Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods.
• Rental days are calculated on a calendar day basis. When calculating the number of days a
vehicle is rented, the day of pick-up is counted as day one of the rental, regardless of pick-up
time. The day of the vehicle’s return is counted as the final day of the rental.
• Late pick-up or early return of vehicle, does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused
portion of the rental.
Late returns will be charged on a per day basis. Failure to obtain authorisation for a rental
extension will result in a daily fee of AU$150 in addition to the daily rate.
