Welcome to Tasmania. The tour departs from Hobart, the capital, and will take you to Strahan, Launceston and Devonport before ending back in Hobart. Take a visit to Cradle Mountain National Park and go for a walk and take in the crystal clean air as well taking a visit to the Hentry Sand Dunes. You'll sleep in dorm share accommodation over the two nights in Strahan. Take up the optional activities to kayak in the harbour or jump in a sea plane.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Hobart to Strahan

DEFAULT PICK UP: Montgomery’s YHA, 07:00am

Our journey begins as we traverse the island from east to west. Escaping Hobart through the Derwent Valley, we walk in the land of the giants and admire the beauty of Russell Falls and Mt Field National Park. Next we visit Lake St Clair; Australia’s deepest freshwater lake. Enter the temperate time capsule that is the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. We end the day in Strahan beside Macquarie Harbour where we stay for 2 nights. Our West Coast host welcomes us with a BBQ dinner. (D)

Day 2 – Strahan and surrounding area

Discover the wild west coast today with a visit to Ocean Beach and the Henty Sand Dunes. Search for elusive whale bones amongst the shifting sands or simply breathe in some of the freshest air in the world. Stroll by the foreshore of the harbour or walk amongst the rainforest to a waterfall. There is also the option today of a cruise on the famous Gordon River, a scenic sea plane flight over the Gordon and Franklin River system complete with a river landing and walk, a journey up the King River on a jet boat, a peaceful paddle in the harbour. (Strahan optional activities all at own expense, some activities are seasonal and not available all year round). Overnight in Strahan. (B)

Day 3 – Cradle Mountain to Launceston

This morning we journey 950m above sea level to Cradle Valley, our gateway to the World Heritage Area of Cradle Mountain National Park. We share some local knowledge and interpretation of the landscape to help you choose a walk that will enhance your experience here. With an extensive range of tracks, you will be able to take it easy with a stroll around Dove Lake and one of the many boardwalk tracks or perhaps challenge yourself with a hike to Marion’s Lookout. When then take a short drive to Sheffield, ‘the town of murals’, before continuing on to Launceston, Australia’s third oldest city and our overnight stop for the night. (B)

Day 4 – Launceston to Hobart

This morning we join our transfer through the historic Tasmanian Midlands as we make our way south to Hobart and the end of our journey. (B)

Where will I sleep?

Includes 3 nts hostel accommodation with share facilities or 3 nights budget ensuite accommodation in either a twin, double or single room.

What to bring:
AU$24 National Park fees.
Sturdy walking shoes (Hikes up to 9km or more per day - preferably ankle high shoes), hat and sunscreen, towel and toiletries, swimming gear, warm clothing, water bottle, torch, insect repellant, fly net to cover your head if you are bothered by flies (outback tours particularly), camera, travel pillow, money for optional snacks you might want to buy and/or meals not included on the specific tour you might be doing.

How much luggage can I bring?

The vehicle has limited space so please keep your luggage to a maximum of 15 kgs in a backpack or soft overnight bag with a small day pack for easy access to camera, film, sunblock etc.

Do I have to participate?

Part of the enjoyment of our tours is bonding with a group of like-minded adventurers so we make them active and hands on. Passengers are expected to help with the preparation of food, washing of dishes and general assistance to the guide as directed.

How fit do I have to be?

This tour requires a certain level of fitness as possible hikes up to 9km or more per day are on the itinerary. Our tours are active so a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability is needed. If you enjoy hiking through gorges, swimming in waterfalls and directly experiencing the environment then our tours are perfect for you. What do I eat?

Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and our meals are nutritious and varied. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner. We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops.

24 Hours - 48 Hours = 50% of Fare
Within 24 Hours = 100% of Fare
