Welcome to Tasmania. The tour departs from Hobart, the capital, and will take you to Strahan, Launceston and Devonport. Take a visit to Cradle Mountain National Park, go for a walk and take in the crystal clean air. You'll sleep in dorm share accommodation over the two nights in Strahan. Take up the optional activities to kayak in the harbour or jump in a sea plane. The tour will conclude in Launceston on day three.

Itinerary:

Day 1 – Hobart to Strahan

DEFAULT PICK UP: Montgomery’s YHA, 07:00am

Our journey begins as we cross the island from east to west. EscapingHobartthrough theDerwentValley, we walk in the land of the giants and admire the beauty ofRussellFallsand Mt Field National Park. VisitLake St Clair,Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, before entering the temperate time capsule that is theFranklin-GordonWildRiversNational Park. End the day in Strahan besideMacquarieHarbour, where we stay overnight. Our West Coast host welcomes us with a BBQ dinner. (D)

Day 2 – Strahan and surrounding area

Discover the Wild West coast today with a visit toOceanBeachand the Henty Sand Dunes. Search for elusive whale bones amongst the shifting sands or simply breathe in some of the freshest air in the world. There is the option today of a cruise on the famous Gordon River,a scenic sea plane flight over the Gordon and Franklin River system complete with a river landing and walk, a journey up the King River on a jet boat or a peaceful paddle or kayak in the harbour.  (Strahan optional activities all at own expense, some activities are seasonal and not available all year round). We stay overnight in Strahan. (B)

Day 3 – Cradle Mountain to Launceston

This morning we journey 950m above sea level toCradleValley, our gateway to the World Heritage Area of Cradle Mountain National Park. We share some local knowledge and interpretation of the landscape to help you choose a walk. With an extensive range of tracks, you will be able to take it easy witha stroll aroundDoveLakeand one of the many boardwalk tracks, or perhaps challenge yourself with a hike toMarion’s Lookout. We then takea short drive to Sheffield, ‘the town of murals’, before continuing on through Devonport to Launceston, Australia’s third oldest city. (B)

Departure location : Select Hobart accommodation from 07.00am. Default pick up: Montgomery’s YHA at 07:00am.

Arrival location : Devonport ferry terminal early evening day 3, or Launceston accommodation early evening.

Where will I sleep?

Accommodation in dorm or hostel / motel twin double or motel single.

What to bring
Sturdy walking shoes (Hikes up to 9km or more per day - preferably ankle high shoes), hat and sunscreen, towel and toiletries, swimming gear, warm clothing, water bottle, torch, insect repellent, fly net to cover your head if you are bothered by flies (outback tours particularly), camera, travel pillow, money for optional snacks you might want to buy and/or meals not included on the specific tour you might be doing.

How much luggage can I bring?

The vehicle has limited space so please keep your luggage to a maximum of 15 kgs in a backpack or soft overnight bag with a small day pack for easy access to camera, film, sunblock etc.

Do I have to participate?

Part of the enjoyment of our tours is bonding with a group of like-minded adventurers so we make them active and hands on. Passengers are expected to help with the preparation of food, washing of dishes and general assistance to the guide as directed.
How fit do I have to be?

Our tours are active so a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability is needed. If you enjoy hiking through gorges, swimming in waterfalls and directly experiencing the environment then our tours are perfect for you. If you have any doubts about your suitability for our tours, accommodation type and vehicles on each itinerary page and consider if you have selected the right tour for you or please check with our Reservations Department before making a booking.

What do I eat?

Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and our meals are nutritious and varied. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner. We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops.

Greater than 30 Days prior = A $36 per person cancellation fee.
48 Hours - 30 Days= 25% of Fare
24 Hours - 48 Hours = 50% of Fare
Within 24 Hours = 100% of Fare

Tours must be re-confirmed 12 to 48hrs prior to day of travel.
