The highlights of this trip include 4Wd adventures, learning about Aboriginal culture, visiting Gunlom Falls as well as the breathtaking Jim Jim Falls in Kakadu National Park. We visit Litchfield National Park as well as the beautiful Katherine Gorge. You’ll have the chance to go croc-spotting on a wildlife boat trip and you’ll sleep under the stars of the top end in either a tent or in a swag (Aussie bedroll). This tour starts and ends in Darwin and runs over five days and four nights. Your host will prepare meals for you along the way so you have more time to explore.

Departure Dates: Departs from Darwin accommodation om Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at around 7am, and returns in the late evening on the third day.

Min/ Max Numbers: This tour operates with a minimum of four people per vehicle and a maximum of 16 or 24 per vehicle.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1 – Darwin to Mary River

DEFAULT PICK UP: Adventure Tours Australia Shop, 52 Mitchell St Darwin, 06:50am.

Leaving Darwin, we journey south to Litchfield National Park where we visit waterfalls that flowall year round. Take a swim after lunch before we travel into Wulna Country and receive a CulCul or unique ‘Welcome to Country’ by the traditional owners of the land, the Limilngan –Wulna people. They’ll share with us their local Aboriginal culture with bush tucker talks,didgeridoo lessons, basket weaving and spear throwing.

We finish the day in the spectacular Mary River Wetlands, where the exotic birds are not theonly wildlife to see. Keep a watch for lurking crocodiles on an afternoon river cruise! Climb intoyour sleeping bag for a well-earned rest at our secluded Mary River camping spot. (LD)

Day 2 – Mary River to Kakadu

Today we head to Kakadu National Park, World Heritage listed for its stunning natural featuresand for being the centre of the world's oldest living culture. Discover ancient Aboriginal rock artat Ubirr before climbing to the top of a rocky lookout for fabulous views over the Nardabfloodplain. Next we head to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) where a hike is rewarded with a swimin the plunge pools. Tonight we stay at our permanent camp in Kakadu National Park. (BLD)

Day 3 – Kakadu to Darwin

Get ready for some 4WD action today as we make our way to Jim Jim Falls, the crown ofKakadu and certain to be one of our trip highlights. Once we get there, we’ll take in thestunning views of this 200m natural wonder before continuing on to Twin Falls. See the beautyof the gorge from a national park operated boat and boardwalk experience. On the way backhome, the scenery will continue to amaze you as we journey back to Darwin in the afternoon.(BL)

Day 4 – Darwin to Daly Waters

PICK UP LOCATION: Adventure Tours Australia Shop, 52 Mitchell St Darwin, 06:50am.

We depart from Darwin early and make our way to Nitmiluk National Park. Our first stop is thebeautiful Edith Falls for a swim before heading to Katherine Gorge where your guide will take you on a short return walk to Baruwei lookout. You can get a postcard shot of the gorge andlearn about this stunning area and its significance to the local Jawoyn Aboriginal people. Oncewe finish exploring the gorge we continue our journey south to Daly Waters arriving in time fordinner and a beer at the historic Daly Waters Hotel - the territory’s oldest pub (own expense)where we stay for the night.

Day 5 – Daly Waters to Alice Springs

We continue our journey south passing through Tennant Creek and onto Karlu Karlu (DevilsMarbles) where we have some time to explore the marble shaped boulders, a site sacred to itstraditional owners. There is also one last photo stop as we cross the tropic of Capricorn beforefinishing in the heart of the Red Centre, Alice Springs.

Where will I sleep?

Permanent camp sites in pre-erected tents.

What to bring
Local Payment: $25 (year round) & $13 (dry season) park fees paid locally.
Sturdy walking shoes (preferably ankle high), hat and sunscreen, towel and toiletries, swimming gear, warm clothing, water bottle, torch, insect repellant, fly net to cover your head if you are bothered by flies (outback tours particularly), camera, pillow, sleeping bag (can be hired AU$20), money for optional snacks you might want to buy and/or meals not included on the specific tour you might be doing.

How much luggage can I bring?

The vehicle has limited space so please keep your luggage to a maximum of 10kgs in a backpack or soft overnight bag with a small day pack for easy access to camera, film, sunblock etc.

Do I have to participate?

Part of the enjoyment of our tours is bonding with a group of like-minded adventurers so we make them active and hands on. Passengers are expected to help with the preparation of food, washing of dishes and general assistance to the guide as directed.

How fit do I have to be?

Our tours are active so a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability is needed. If you enjoy hiking through gorges, swimming in waterfalls and directly experiencing the environment then our tours are perfect for you. If you have any doubts about your suitability for our tours, accommodation type and vehicles on each itinerary page and consider if you have selected the right tour for you or please check with our Reservations Department before making a booking.

What do I eat?

Our emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and our meals are nutritious and varied. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner. We always carry water in the vehicle and you will have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops.
