Itinerary

Day 1: Alice Springs

Tour the sights of ‘The Alice’ including the historic Telegraph Station. Visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air. At the Alice Springs Reptile Park you will see unique central Australian reptiles, such as the Perentie Lizard and Thorny Devil. Finish the day with panoramic views of Alice Springs and the ranges from the top of Anzac Hill.

Hotel: Ibis Styles Alice Springs Oasis (Budget), Aurora Alice Springs (Standard), Lasseters Hotel (Superior) or Chifley Alice Springs Resort, River Gum Rooms (First Class), Alice Springs.

Day 2: Alice Springs – Ayers Rock

Travelling south we stop to visit a camel farm where there is time for a short camel ride (own expense). Later stop at a lookout to view Atila (Mt. Conner) before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way, stop at a lookout for a panoramic view of the southern side of Kata Tjuta. Continue on before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend some time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. The walking trail through Walpa Gorge follows the natural creek between two of the tallest domes of Kata Tjuta. In the late afternoon we travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness and photograph the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying nibbles and a complimentary glass of wine.

Day 3: Uluṟu (Ayers Rock)

Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluṟu sunrise viewing area, Talinguṟu Nyakunytjaku. Watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. After watching the sunrise you will join your AAT Kings Driver Guide for a tour around the base of Uluṟu. Travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide indicates some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluṟu. Visit the Uluṟu – Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts, before returning to Ayers Rock Resort. On days when the Uluru Climb is open, those with a good level of fitness will have the opportunity to climb Uluṟu as an alternative to the Uluṟu Base Tour.

Sturdy walking shoes (preferably ankle high), hat and sunscreen, towel and toiletries, swimming gear, warm clothing, water bottle, torch, insect repellant, fly net to cover your head if you are bothered by flies (outback tours particularly), camera, pillow, sleeping bag (can be hired AU$20), money for optional snacks you might want to buy and/or meals not included on the specific tour you might be doing.

How much luggage can I bring?

The vehicle has limited space so please keep your luggage to a maximum of 15 kgs in a backpack or soft overnight bag with a small day pack for easy access to camera, film, sunblock etc.

What do I eat on tour?

The emphasis is on fresh food wherever possible and the meals are nutritious and varied. If you are vegetarian or gluten intolerant we can cater for you, but if you have very specific dietary needs you may need to provide your own food, please discuss this at time of booking. For breakfast we supply cereals, toast, tea and coffee. Lunch is usually a self-serve sandwich and salads; in the evening we have a cooked dinner. We always carry water in the vehicle and you will often have the chance to buy your own drinks, ice-creams etc at stops.
