Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Uluṟu (Ayers Rock)

On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you will be transferred to your hotel (flights to arrive prior to 3.00pm). Watch the sunset at Uluru while enjoying complimentary wine. Continue to our exclusive venue to enjoy our award-winning Australian barbecue dinner including steak, sausages, kangaroo meat, salads and sparkling wine.

Hotel: Outback Pioneer Lodge (Budget), Outback Pioneer Hotel (Standard), Desert Gardens Hotel (Superior) or Sails in the Desert Hotel (First Class), Ayers Rock Resort, 2 nights.

Day 2: Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Valley of the Winds

Rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area to watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight. After sunrise, you will join your AAT Kings Driver Guide for a tour around the base of Uluru. Travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where you will be escorted to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your Driver Guide indicates some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. Later visit the Uluru - Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.

This afternoon travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) where your Driver Guide will explain the geological history of these giant domes. Your Guide will then escort you on a 2-3 hour walk to the Valley of the Winds Lookout. Later take in a magnificent outback sunset at Kata Tjuta while enjoying a complimentary glass of wine.

 

Day 3: Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) – Kings Canyon

This morning is at leisure. This afternoon travel through spectacular desert scenery to Kings Canyon Resort. Pass through Curtin Springs and view Atila (Mt. Conner). On arrival there may be time to watch the sun set behind Carmichaels Crag.

Day 4: Kings Canyon – Alice Springs

This morning make the climb to the rim of the canyon, where you will be rewarded with marvellous views of Watarrka National Park (for those with a good level of fitness). Continue the 3 hour walk around the canyon with your guide as you hear and learn about the geology and history of this amazing formation. Alternatively, take the more leisurely 1.5 hour walk along the boulder-strewn creek bed. Return to Kings Creek Station for lunch (own expense). Travel through beautiful desert landscapes from Kings Canyon Resort to Alice Springs by luxury coach. Stop at Erldunda Roadhouse for the opportunity to purchase afternoon tea.

Hotel: Ibis Styles Alice Springs Oasis (Budget), Aurora Alice Springs (Standard), Doubletree by Hilton Alice Springs (Superior) or Chifley Alice Springs Resort (First Class), Alice Springs, 2 nights.

Day 5: Tjoritja/West MacDonnell Ranges

Experience the magnificent grandeur of the West MacDonnell Ranges, the deep red cleft of Standley Chasm, the mystique of Ellery Creek Big Hole, the cultural significant of the Ochre Pits. Visit Glen Helen Gorge. Sip on a glass of wine and enjoy a ploughman’s lunch at Glen Helen. See the immense cliffs of quartzite at Simpsons Gap, a haven for a colony of black footed rock wallabies.

Day 6: Farewell from Alice Springs

Your short break concludes this morning. You’ll be transferred to Alice Springs Airport for your onward flight (flights anytime). If you wish to extend your stay there is a range of Alice Springs day tours or Optional Experiences, such as hot air ballooning or scenic helicopter flight.
